Gynecomastia Surgery in Houston

Up to 40% of Men are reported to have gynecomastia or the so-called “man boobs” at some point in their life. Most males have enlargement of their breasts during their puberty or adolescence but most of them resolve within a year or two. Unfortunately, gynecomastia may persist in some unlucky men.

Common Causes of Gynecomastia

  • Drug Abuse – Marijuana, Methamphetamines, Heroin, Alcohol
  • Cardiovascular drugs – digoxin, verapamil, reserpine, amiodarone, nifedipine
  • Other Drugs – Spironolactone, Cimetidine (Tagamet), Ranitidine (Zantac), Ketoconazole, etc.
  • Renal Failure
  • Liver Failure
  • Testicular Cancer
  • Klinefelter Syndrome
  • Endocrine Disoders: Hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, Cushing’s Syndrome, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, hypogonadism, pituitary failure

Treatment Options of Gynecomastia or the Man Boobs

  • VASER Liposuction – The male breast is fibrous in nature, and thus it is difficult to treat with traditional liposuction methods.  Gynecomastia can be reliably and successfully treated utilizing the VASER liposuction.  The ultrasound energy of the VASER technology allows the dense fibrotic male breast tissue to be penetrated easily and safely while avoiding damage to the skin or surrounding chest wall muscles.
  • Subcutaneous Mastectomy – Unfortunately, not all men with gynecomastia or man boobs are candidates for VASER liposuction.  Those with severe gynecomastia may need removal of excess skin and fatty tissue.  This may be combined with the VASER liposuction to augment and improve the result of this more invasive procedure.
  • Post-Operative Care of Gynecomastia Surgery

After the VASER liposuction for the treatment of Gynecomastia, the male patient will be wearing a surgical garment for several weeks up to 3 months. He can go back to work the following week after the procedure.
